History
Loring Nicollet-Bethlehem Community Centers (LNB) traces its roots back to 1954 when members of Plymouth Congregational Church decided to offer social services to meet the needs of the youth and families living in the surrounding neighborhood. That effort was soon joined by other interested churches, such as Hennepin Avenue Methodist, St. Mark’s Episcopal, Wesley Methodist and Westminster Presbyterian, as well as the Women’s Club of Minneapolis. Meanwhile, in 1958, Bethlehem Presbyterian Church was starting to provide similar activities at its facility in an adjacent neighborhood. For several years, the two sites operated cooperatively but independently. Then, in 1972, they merged to create LNB. Several suburban churches, including Christ Presbyterian, Good Samaritan Methodist and Hope Presbyterian were gradually added as sponsors. United Way support was secured and local corporations and foundations also made generous contributions. In addition, public funds were obtained through contracts with the City of Minneapolis, Hennepin County, the State of Minnesota and the Minneapolis Public Schools. LNB continues to offer high quality education and employment services that annually help approximately 2,000 economically disadvantaged people gain self-sufficiency.
Mission
To assist people towards self-sufficiency by offering high quality education and employment services in partnership with the community in ways that undo discrimination.
